Founded in 1982, FoodDrinkEurope is the leading organisation of the European food and drink industry, one of Europe’s largest manufacturing sectors in terms of turnover, employment and value added. FoodDrinkEurope’s members count 26 national food and drink federations across the EU as well as Norway and the UK, 26 European sector associations and 23 large food and drink companies.
Based in Brussels, FoodDrinkEurope’s high-performing permanent secretariat is tasked with the day-today functioning of the organisation. A dynamic, international team of 22 staff, the secretariat maintains close contacts with European and international institutions and is a major partner in consultations on all issues affecting Europe’s food and drink industry. It co-ordinates the work of more than 700 experts through its Committees and Expert Groups, including on environmental sustainability; competitiveness and trade; consumer information, nutrition and health; and food safety, research and innovation.

This exciting role is at the cut and thrust of EU policy making, working with Europe’s food and drink businesses and policymakers to develop positions and actions in relation to consumer information, nutrition and health. The role focuses on leading FoodDrinkEurope’s consumer information, nutrition and health department and actively contributing to FoodDrinkEurope’s leadership team. The successful candidate will have experience in leading a team, managing internal and external stakeholder relationships with tact, diplomacy and persuasiveness, working with EU policy-makers and developing effective public affairs strategies.
Key responsibilities:
The Director Consumer Information, Nutrition and Health is part of FoodDrinkEurope’s leadership team and reports to the Director General. Main responsibilities include:
– Directing a team of two regulatory and policy managers in the area of consumer information, nutrition and health;
– Developing and implementing effective public affairs strategies on consumer information, nutrition and health related issues in line with the organisation’s roadmap;
– Co-ordinating the European food and drink industry’s positions on consumer information, nutrition and health dossiers;
– Stimulating and driving the food and drink industry’s proactive agenda towards sustainable food systems;
– Ensuring co-ordination and consistency across all governance levels of FoodDrinkEurope;
– Managing the preparation, organisation and follow-up of relevant FoodDrinkEurope Committees and Working Groups, including the Board of Directors;
– Representing FoodDrinkEurope at events and in official meetings, developing an authoritative public profile on consumer information, nutrition and health policy at EU and international level;
– Building and maintaining constructive relations with members and key stakeholders in Brussels;
– Providing regulatory and policy support to FoodDrinkEurope members;
– Supporting the development and execution of reputational and policy-related communications campaigns.
