GSCF represents the self-care and self-medication industry andendeavours to contribute to WHO’s Public Health goals throughour specialized expertise. GSCF is a non-State actor (NSA) inofficial relations with the World Health Organization, since 1977.

Position SummaryThe Director General of GSCF will beresponsible for setting and executingthe association’s strategic direction andpriorities in agreement with the GSCF Boardof Directors and Executive Committee;for developing and building consensusaround policies, programs and activitiesdesigned to serve the needs of a diversemembership; and for ensuring that theorganization is run in an effective, ethicaland financially responsible manner. TheDirector General works closely with theChairman, association officers, membersof the Executive Committee, and membersof the Board of Directors to promote theself-care agenda including the role ofover the counter medicines, nutritionalsupplements and oral care productsglobally: and to provide leadership andguidance on policy, regulatory and scientificissues before governments, WHO and

Key Responsibilities– Provide leadership, management and
oversight for the association’s operations,and help to achieve successful outcomesagainst strategic pillars of organization
– Work with Executive Committee and Boardof Directors to develop and prioritizethe vision and strategic priorities of theassociation to be focused on short andlong-term objectives and outcome based;lead staff and company members insuccessful execution of identified goals;and strive to achieve unity, where possible,within the membership on key issuesaffecting the industry and enhance/protectopportunities that are key growth enginesfor the industry
– Anticipate current and emerging political,social, economic, policy and regulatoryissues and trends globally that affect theindustry; recommend actions and resourcesfor association to address the issues
– Develop strategy for establishing andstrengthening trade associations in keycountries, as agreed by the GSCF Board
of Directors
– Build and maintain co-operative relationswith international organizations relevantfor the consumer health industry andrepresenting stakeholders in healthcare
– Represent and serve as the face and voiceof CHC industry at industry meetings andfunctions; and with external audiencesincluding government officials, policymakers, regulators, and the media.
– Promote close collaboration andmember associations/companies
– Oversee and participate in process todevelop consensus on priorities and policypositions on issues affecting the industry;support member association efforts onnational legislation and regulation asagreed by GSCF Board
– Coordinate the research agenda of dataand evidence demonstrating the valueand benefits of responsible self-care
– Manage the overall operations andfinances of the association accordingto industry best practices, legal andcompliance standards
– Provide strategic vision and support theplanning of GSCF Regional Conferences
– Manage the committees and taskforces
– Manage GSCF staff to foster positive,collaborative work environment
– Maintain highest standards of ethicsand integrity

Candidate ProfileIDEAL EXPERIENCE
EducationPreferably an advanced degree in a relevantfield of study.
GeneralAt least 10 to 15 years of proven leadership,management and decision-making experiencewith direct accountability for results at theexecutive level of an organization. Commercialexperience is an advantage.
Specific– Consumer Health: Sound knowledge of
political, policy, legislative and regulatoryenvironment of consumer healthcare products,and processes related to healthcare, nonprescription/OTCs, nutritional supplements;
– Associations: Experience leading globalorganisations & demonstrated ability to workwith diverse international organizations andindividuals; experience working with WHOand other key global health stakeholders adefinite advantage
– Representation: Experience serving as the faceand voice of an industry or group, a skilled andstrategic advocate and communicator on publicpolicy issues.
– Financial: Astute at financial aspects of runningimplementing strategies for growth.
– Experience in working with a Boardof Directors
LeadershipExperience managing andmotivating teams. Experienceleading an organizationthrough change.
