Head of Sustainability

Mission

As Head of Sustainability, your primary responsibility will be to develop, implement and/or coordinate sustainable strategies and initiatives across the organization. You will lead and coordinate efforts to minimize the company's environmental impact and ensure long-term sustainable practices in all aspects of the business. The Head of Sustainability will be the company's spokesperson to the market and communities to promote our sustainability and circularity initiatives. The position will report to the CEO of Holcim Belgium.

Main responsibilities

H&S: Participate in all the necessary measures to obtain the "zero accident" result in collaboration with the Prevention Advisors and the management of the company.

Sustainability Strategy Development: Formulate a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with the organization's vision and goals. Identify opportunities for improvement and develop plans to integrate sustainable practices into various departments and processes.

Responsible for conducting and overseeing Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and producing the related Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), used to communicate environmental information to stakeholders, such as consumers, architects, engineers, and policymakers

Environmental Impact Management: Assess and manage the company's environmental footprint, including energy consumption, waste management, greenhouse gas emissions, and water usage. Coordinate initiatives and Implement measures to minimize negative impacts and enhance resource efficiency.

Compliance and Reporting: Stay abreast of relevant sustainability regulations and reporting frameworks. Ensure the organization's compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. Prepare and submit sustainability reports, disclosing key performance indicators and progress towards sustainability goals.

Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal and external stakeholders to foster a culture of sustainability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including senior management, operations, HR, and marketing, to drive sustainable initiatives, share best practices, and promote awareness.

Innovation and Research: Keep abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in sustainability. Identify opportunities for innovation and research and champion the adoption of sustainable solutions and technologies within the organization.

Employee Education and Training: Develop and deliver training programs to raise awareness and build capacity among employees regarding sustainability practices and their importance. Foster a culture of sustainability throughout the organization.

Performance Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish performance metrics and tracking systems to monitor progress towards sustainability goals. Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to identify areas for improvement and drive continuous improvement efforts.

Overall, as the Head of Sustainability, your role is critical in shaping and executing the group strategy “Accelerating Green Growth” in Belgium around 4 pillars: Climate & Energy, Circular Economy, Environment, Community.

Profile Education : Engineering combined with MBA

Experience : Several years’ experience in an heavy industrial sector with focus on sustainability project, product development and/or technical marketing

MS Office

Fluent French, Dutch and Engl (all 3 fluent mandatory)

Demonstrates listening and facilitation skills

Leadership (ability to persuade, negotiate and motivate)

Has a good commercial sense / common sense of the customer

Group facilitation

Providing constructive feedback. Strong with empathy

Is assertive and resilient

In the field, able to work in a team and to promote pragmatic solutions to problems

Has interpersonal skills, able to work with all levels of the organization

Specific working conditions : Travel in Belgium, and occasionally abroad
